What a nice quiet day.

After professional development today I decided to get a little lost in the city. Well not lost I knew where I was going. But I just lazed around for awhile seeing some new sights and re-visiting some of my favorites.

Here are just some of my nice new photos from around the city. From shopping and beautiful housing in Notting Hill, to scenary and statues at Wellington Arch and Hyde Park. Lovely.

Globe-alicious

Last night after a grueling and long day at work that resulted in a massive headache (don't worry still fun just lots of great big responsibility and not used to working 8.5-9 hour days yet!) I got to end my week on a fabulous note.

As part of our visa compliance they took us to our weekly cultural activity, The Comedy of Errors, at the one and only replica of Shakespeare's very own Globe Theatre!!!!!!!!!! Could I have been any more excited?!?!?! I think not!

First just to be inside the very well done re-creation was beyond amazing. Then the play was completely delightful which was just an added bonus! The acting was very clever and they took a very interesting but wonderful twist on the comedy of twin twins, faeries and mistaken identity!!! I (and the rest of the group) had the "peasant" seats which was basically standing in the yard. Now standing 2.5 hours after a long week at work seemed poor planning on EUSA's part but once the play started I just felt completely transformed back to the days when you couldn't wait to stand for hours if it meant being able to enjoy the magic that is a Shakespeare comedy! The time flew by and I was sad it was over because it was just the funniest thing I have perhaps (dare I say it?) ever seen.

As an added bonus I also received my tickets to go back to the Globe (in the lower middle class seats this time!) to see Romeo & Juliet next weekend!!! Divine!!!

Welcome to the Real World.

No pictures today. Still just as exhausted though.
Today was my first day as an intern. It was a whirlwind.
I get my own desk, my own computer, my own phone number, my own email account. Plus I got my own notebook, pen set and sticky notes!!!!

At first it was a little awkward since being from the US we can't get UK programming I was kind of researching things in a way different from how they do them. But by lunch I'd gotten the hang of their style and ideas and even managed to kick around a few of my own.

I'm re-working some of their existing concepts for now to get my feet wet. I pitched some decent drafts today on new directions for some programming they want to get started. One was on lying and deceit and I'm even putting in some official phone calls to some contacts tomorrow on behalf of the company! Tomorrow I start some work on new series on future "fads" in dieting, new age medicine and fertility treatments. I think its pretty interesting stuff. Not as hard hitting and controversial as most of their publications but I'm just getting started!!!!!

So a great first day on the job!!!
And the real world is exhausting, they don't teach you that in class!!!!

Well today we had a minor flub in plans. Intentions were to see the Changing of the Guard yet being a bank holiday it was closed. Instead we re-routed to Harrods which was fabulous.

I felt a little like I was in the middle of the Fergie song "Labels or Love" or in an episode of Sex and the City. Jimmy Choo, Dior, Chanel, D&B, Vivienne Westwood, YSL, Cartier, Rolex, DeBeers, Prada and I could go on. . . Gorgeous.

After that fun we headed to the Victoria & Albert Museum. Not something for just a half a day but we still managed to trudge through it all. They had a lot of very interesting and wonderful collections. I really enjoyed their theater and fashion exhibits which featured some really unique things. Their world collections had some of the most beautiful religious artifacts I've ever seen. Having studied so much religious literature and history it was really overwhelming to be in the presence of some of the very things I've been studying. Their collection of Christian artifacts from Europe, Islamic artifacts and Hindu god alters was just divine. It was a really massive but unique museum that I would love to try to go back to while I'm here because I could really look at some of those things for hours on their own.

Came home to find a roommate today! Finally! Living on my own was fun but its nice to have someone to talk to at night etc. She is from NYC but goes to a small college in Tennessee and is just a doll. She works in the music field and was really excited I'm working in film so we will have a lot to chat about over the next few weeks together! Now we are just settling in to get to bed because of our big days tomorrow! I start my internship with Films of Record. I'm a little more nervous mixed in with my excited this time!!!! I've been doing the project they had me working on all week so I'm pretty ready to go but I'm just not sure what to expect. But I'm really excited to jump right in. So much so I did something I never do, I put out my perfect first day outfit out the night before! The cheesy things we do when we are excited!!!!
